(Ottawa, Canada – May 29-31 2017) This year's sixth Annual Meeting of the Global Research Council (GRC) took place in Ottawa, Canada between May 29 and 31 2017. The meeting was hosted by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the National Council of Science, Technology and Technological Innovation of Peru (CONCYTEC).

The annual meeting brought together heads of research funding organizations from around the globe, among them the director of the Slovenian Research Agency (ARRS), Prof József Györkös.

Participants have adopted two timely and valuable Statements of Principles:

• Statement of Principles – The Dynamic Interplay Between Fundamental Research and Innovation and
• Statement of Principles – Capacity Building and Connectivity Among Granting Agencies Worldwide.

Both Statements of Principles represent a global consensus among research funding organisations being developed in the series of regional meetings (Africa, Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Middle East/North Africa).
