The President of the European Research Council, Professor Jean-Pierre Bourguignon Visits Slovenia for the First Time

The president of the European Research Council, Professor Jean-Pierre Bourguignon visited Slovenia for the first time on June 6th 2016.

Professor Bourguignon started his visit at the National Institute of Chemistry, where the introductory session entitled The Importance of ERC for the Career Development of Young Researchers in Slovenia has been held in the context of 70th anniversary of the National Institute of Chemistry. Opening remarks were given by the director of the National Institute of Chemistry, Professor Gregor Anderluh, the prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Professor Miro Cerar, the Minister of education, science and sports, Professor Maja Makovec Brenčič, Professor Jean-Pierre Bourguignon and the director of the Slovenian Research Agency, Professor József Györkös. Presentations of experiences of Slovenian ERC grantees concluded the session.

Professor Bourguignon proceeded by visiting the Jozef Stefan Institute and the University of Ljubljana, where the discussion on the concepts of basic science was held in the afternoon gathering 50 eminent guests from Slovenian Science.

The visit has been co-organised by the Slovenian Business and Research Association (SBRA) from Brussels and the National Institute of Chemistry in co-operation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports, the University of Ljubljana and Jozef Stefan Institute.
