The scope and structure of funding

Projects

The Agency promotes international scientific research under the lead agency scheme. Cooperation agreements concluded by two agencies from different countries enable researchers to apply for a joint project at one of the agencies (lead agency) that carries out a peer review process. If the application is successful in the peer review process and is proposed for co-funding by the lead agency, the other agency takes over the co-funding of researchers from its country without any additional peer review process. So far, the Slovenian Research Agency has concluded cooperation agreements with the Austrian Fund for Scientific Research (Fonds zur Förderung der wissenschaftlichen Forschung – FWF), Flemish Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) and Hungarian National Research, Development and Innovation Fund (NKFIA, former OTKA).

The Agency also co-finances the so-called complementary scheme. The applicants from Slovenian research organizations that were positively evaluated at an ERC call, but were not selected for co-funding have the possibility to prepare a customized project for the Agency, taking into account the duration of the customized project and the amount of available funds within its objectives and scope of work. In accordance with the budgetary means, the Agency co-finances customized projects implemented primarily in Slovenia.
